We believe every child should experience the joy of the holiday season. Unfortunately, patients in treatment for leukemia and blood-related cancers, as well as their families, have little funds or time to spare for holiday celebrations due to the treatment expenses and time spent in hospital clinics.
To help brighten the holidays for CLF patients and families, Children’s Leukemia Foundation of Michigan hosts the annual Holiday Toys Program. The Holiday Toys Program sends presents to more than 1,000 children from more than 400 CLF families across Michigan. The program has grown every year since 1952.
We reach out to our supporters every holiday season to host individual toy drives. Many gracious organizations and individuals, including Gonzalez Engineering, Inc., Global LT, Art Van Furniture and the Michigan Youth Soccer League, host toy drives. CLF gladly accepts new, unused and unwrapped toys less than 10 years old for children of any age, from infants to teenagers. We also are in need of gift cards – we all know teens love to shop and how much fun it is for kids to hand pick toys from the shelf! No donation is too small or large. More than 4,000 toys and gift cards are sent to kids of all ages across the state, and we strive to give more presents every year.
In conjunction with the Holiday Toys Program, CLF host annual Holiday Toys Open Houses in December. For those in treatment or recovering, activities like visiting Santa or attending holiday parties isn’t possible due to health reasons. With the help of dozens of volunteers, CLF provides a safe, loving environment specially designed for our patients and families to come together and celebrate. At the Open House events, the children can make holiday crafts, take pictures with Santa, enjoy surprises and get in the holiday spirit with families and friends.
