Daughter of CLF donors Roger and Anne. Sister to Dave.
Jill was diagnosed with leukemia in early 1997. She lost her battle at the age of 27. At the time of her passing, Jill worked at Atlas Copco Assembly Systems located in Sterling Hts. In five years, this company employing 80 individuals, conducted in-house fundraising events totaling $12,022. This was raised to establish a fund in Jill’s name for Children’s Leukemia Foundation of Michigan’s endowment campaign. One of the methods for recognizing named funds was through the placement of a tile on the Commemorative Wall. The President and several employees from Atlas Copco along with Roger, Anne and Dave attended the dedication of Jill’s tile.
Son of Leo Egan. Leo, retired President & CEO of Ameritech Publishing served as a Campaign Chair for the Children’s Leukemia Foundation of Michigan’s Endowment Campaign, A Lifeline for Today and Tomorrow. One of the methods for recognizing the establishment of the endowment’s named funds (funds achieving $10,000 in gifts or more) was a tile on the Commemorative Wall.
Brittany lost her battle in 2002, at the age of 16. Janeen has been active with CLF, serving as an ambassador as well as implementing the Women’s Expo (to benefit CLF).
Kay diagnosed in 1974, is a former patient and survivor. They have two children, Cory and Sheri (David). A tile in her honor was placed on the wall. Chris and Kay are former organizers of CLF’s Jackson County Chapter (volunteer chapter).
Bobby lost his battle with lymphoma in 1984. At the time of the establishment of the endowment fund in Bobby, Jr.’s name, Bobby Sr., former CLF board member (96/97) was Select Care’s CFO/COO (prior to that he was the Executive Director of Omni Care Health Plan).
Mother of Ellen Lesser Siegel, mother-in-law to Dr. Les Siegel and grandmother of Michael, Eric and Stephen.
Elaine Lesser lost her battle with cancer. Ellen spearheaded the Commemorative Wall project for Children’s Leukemia Foundation of Michigan. She was involved in all aspects of the wall’s design, underwriting, artist choice and dedication. This tile is dedicated to her mother’s memory.
University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center
In 1996, the West Bloomfield Women’s Club held their annual fashion show. Children’s Leukemia Foundation of Michigan was the beneficiary. The tile was established to acknowledge their generosity.
Father of Chuck Fortinberry, father-in-law of Dana and grandfather of Lane, Brendan and Cameron.
Proceeds from the annual Glen W. Fortinberry Memorial Golf Outing supported the endowment through the fund established in Glenn’s name. Dana is a past Board President. Chuck is a current board member.
Daughter of Stephen and Barbara. Sister of Mac, Amy, Andrew and Trevor.
In 1994, just seven weeks after her leukemia diagnosis, Casey lost her battle. She was just 14 years of age. For several years, Steve and Barb held Casey’s Classic on the grounds of their home. Proceeds from this annual event supported CLF’s endowment campaign and established the fund in Casey’s name.
Harry and Sylvia’s daughter. Sister of Barry and Abby (Pook).
Sylvia served as Children’s Leukemia Foundation of Michigan’s Executive Director for many years. The organization flourished under her leadership. Harry worked side by side with Sylvia, serving as President of CLF’s Board of Directors for two, non-consecutive terms.
Tile was dedicated in celebration of Sam’s survival. Sam was the chair of CLF’s Strategic Planning Committee and served on CLF Board of Directors from 1993-1996. Sam and Anne, the parents of twin daughters are currently serving as Co-Chairs for the Sylvia and Harry Brown Endowment.
Son of Michael and Nancy Weightman. Brother of Adam and Kara.
Born in 1984, Byran lost his battle with Congenital Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia in 1986. Michael is a past CLF Board President. Michael and Nancy met with JJ, requested he consider CLF as the beneficiary of the station’s Radiothon. CLF continues to be its beneficiary today.
Daughter of Bruce and Nancy Mann (resides in Traverse City), sister of Kimberley and Rebecca, granddaughter of Judge John and Mary Lou Mann (both deceased) and niece of Susan Mann (residing in CA).
Michelle lost her battle with ALL in 1985 at the age of 15. I believe the tile was placed in Michelle’s memory as a result of a large bequest from Jane Thompson (Bruce’s aunt). Until their passing, Judge and Mary Lou Mann supported CLF. Susan is a long standing supporter as well.
Son of Roy and Sue Aho. Brother of George, David, Patty and Catherine.
John and George became acquainted with Children’s Leukemia Foundation of Michigan through the Radiothon. John was diagnosed with leukemia and lost his battle. His family founded the John F. Aho Foundation and at the direction of John for the sole purpose to raise money for the Children’s Leukemia Foundation of Michigan. The tile was dedicated in appreciation and recognition of their annual efforts.
Son of Geraldine and ____. Brother of Dave (Roberta), Thad (Mary Ellen), Thom (Mary Ellen), Karen, Judy Robbins (Owen) and Geri Ann Muller (Rick Ureel).
In 1973 at the age of 18, J. Michael Smith lost his battle with leukemia. The Smith family was helped by Children’s Leukemia Foundation of Michigan and they wanted to give something back. In 1994, the Smith children who run Basic Rubber and Plastics, a family owned business held their first annual golf outing to benefit Children’s Leukemia Foundation of Michigan’s endowment campaign. The tile was placed in acknowledgement of their efforts and for the endowment fund they established in his name.
ANR Pipeline made a $10,000 donation in support of the Children’s Leukemia Foundation of Michigan’s endowment campaign. The tile was in acknowledgement of this gift and their establishment of an endowment named fund. Bruno Damioli had the relationship with and participated in the recruitment of this gift.
Son of Albert Schaller. Brother of Steve and Richard (Lisa).
In 1981, David was diagnosed with ALL. He was 10 ½ at the time. In 1998, at 17 years of age, David lost his battle. At the tile dedication, Albert referred to him as “St. David”. Son Steve accompanied his father, Albert to the dedication in 1999. Tile was placed the wall in acknowledgement of Albert’s generosity.
Note: at the time of the dedication, Albert was the President of Schaller Corporation.
Daughter of Bruno and Madelyn. Sister of John, Patty (Joel Westrate) and Carol Ann (Brian Deming).
In 1991, at the age of 34, Kathy lost her battle with leukemia. In recognition of Bruno and Madelyn’s establishment of an endowment named fund, a tile was dedicated in Kathy’s memory.
Husband to Jacqueline. Father of Susan Di Anna, Marlene and grandchildren Joseph and Alexandra.
The Taranowsky family made a donation to underwrite the design and production costs for the Commemorative Wall. Joseph’s daughter Susan Taran-Kolhler served on the committee and CLF’s Board of Directors. See plaque located next to wall.
Margie and Don Harris are parents of M. Julie Clark. Sister of Katie.
Julie was diagnosed with leukemia, survived and married. Unfortunately, Julie was diagnosed with a brain tumor and lost her battle in 2004. Margie is a past Board Chair. Don also served on the board.
For seven years, Ransom Fidelity Company supported Children’s Leukemia Foundation of Michigan through grants for Emergency Needs, Peer Support and Special Days. In ’96 they indicated they wished the grant to be designated as a memorial to Marjorie, the daughter of a friend who lost her battle with leukemia. In recognition of their long standing support, CLF placed a tile on the wall in her name. Marjorie’s mother attended the dedication.
